Planetarium and Astronomical Observatory
Torino - 19th March 2008

The visit to Planetarium was meant to provide participating students with a glimpse of the evolution of astronomy starting from Ancient times up to modern IR telescope technologies. Visitors were split into two groups and lead along the historic path displayed on the three floor of the Planetarium; furthermore, the gathered group assisted to a short movie about constellations and galaxies inside the traditional Planetarium projection hemisphere.

The tour continued with the visit to the telescopes of the Astronomical Observatory, mainly old–fashioned historical pieces which are the only available to general public; due to bad weather conditions, it was not possible to observe the Sun via suitable filters as previously scheduled. Anyway, participants were shown a suggestive slide show about observations of galaxies and constellations made at the Astronomical Observatory.

The visit was completely free for students thanks to funding provided by Fondo AttivitĂ  Culturali Studentesche of Politecnico di Torino
